Reflection

World Literature

Through out this semester iv'e really enjoyed this class. I really like how you have taught this semester and i like how you push us by giving us difficult assignments. I have definitely became a better writer and i am more confident in my writing. I also really like the assignments you have given us because i feel like they have meaning, and aren't pointless like i feel like most of the classes in the past iv'e taken. I really like how you teach us to look for the deeper meaning of everything. I have more of a deeper look at things now and for the most part try to look for the deeper meaning behind things now when it comes to literature. One of my favorite things we have done was the satire part of the semester, when we made fun of society. I also read Lord of the Flies year and i didn't understand it nearly as well as i do this year. This was a good semester and i'm looking forward to next one.

Campbell

"If your real problem is-losing yourself, giving yourself to some higher end, or to another-you realize that this itself is the ultimate trial. When we quit thinking primarily about ourselves and our own self preservation, we undergo a truly heroic transformation of consciousness"(Campbell 126). Campbell is saying the hardest battle is defeating ourselves. He's saying that we hold ourselves back but once we realize that we have to do that we undergo that transformation we become our own hero.

Swift

"I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children"(Swift 4). Swift is saying how bad the British really are. They are feeding off of their parents might as well eat the kids.

Golding

"But a sign came down from the world of grownups, though at the time there was no child awake to read it. There was a sudden bright explosion and a corkscrew trail across the sky;then darkness again and stars"(Golding 96). At this part of the story is when the children were looking for some sort of sign that they are going to be okay. But instead they get sent a dead parachute which symbolizes that they are going to die.
